In Step 6, students use ideas and content from the text
selections as the basis for writing.
In Unit 14, students organize their ideas using an
informal outline to prepare to write an essay in
which they take and support a position--pro or con.
In order to cut the budget, the school district is thinking about
eliminating art classes. Write a multiparagraph essay stating
your position about eliminating art classes. Give reasons to
support your position.
Another reason, art classes are important
to help people learn to appreciate art. Art
helps people understand other cultures. Art
represents important aspects olf people's
lives and passes along their heritage. Art
also touches many aspects of people's lives.
Architecture, video and clothing are all
parts of our lives affected by art.
Getting rid of art will limit student's
opportunities for careers requiring art and
to appreciate the importance of art in their
lives. These are the reasons why I think
eliminating art to balance the budget is a
bad idea.
Con
I am not in favor of eliminating art
classes to save the school money. Art classes
are important for creative people as a way
to express their ideas and for people to learn
to appreciate art in their lives.
The first reason is that art provides a
way for students to express themselves.
When they create art, they feel a sense of
accomplishment and create things that
make them feel proud. Art is important
for creative people. For example, it helps
prepare students for many careers. Art can
help students move into careers like graphic
design and animation.
